What is a point-based prize-pool?
A point-based prize-pool allows you to create a competitive ranking within your club. This innovative approach rewards players' performance and consistency, fostering a unique gaming dynamic.
Why Configure point-based prize-pool?
Configuring a point-based prize-pool offers several advantages. It allows you to customize rewards to fit your club's strategy, motivate players, and create a healthy and stimulating competition. Moreover, it adds a strategic layer to your tournaments, encouraging players to adopt various approaches to maximize their ranking.
Beyond simply rewarding the final ranking of players, PTA offers the possibility to award points during crucial events such as "kills" — those thrilling moments when a player eliminates an opponent. This adds an additional strategic dimension, rewarding not only overall performance but also individual achievements.
Ranking Equation: Maximizing Consistency
A player's final ranking remains at the core of points distribution. Players can accumulate points based on their position in the overall tournament ranking. This approach promotes consistency and steady performance, encouraging healthy competition throughout the tournament.
The "Kill" Achievement: Rewarding Boldness and Strategy
Beyond the ranking, PTA offers the opportunity to reward moments of bravery. When a player eliminates an opponent, whether through a bold read or impeccable strategy, additional points can be awarded. This creates an interesting dynamic where players are encouraged to take calculated risks to gain extra rewards. You can also award additional points by assigning bounties when eliminating specific players.
Flexible Configuration
The configuration of the points prize-pool in PTA offers complete flexibility. You have control to set the value of points awarded for each ranking position and for each "kill". Thus, each tournament director can adjust the system to reflect the nuances of their club's strategy, favoring consistency or boldness.
Configure the Point-based Prize-Pool
You can configure the points prize-pool either during the configuration of a tournament or by creating/modifying a prize-pool template.
(1) Points tab: Click on this tab to configure the points prize-pool.
(2) Icons indicating which rewards are enabled: points, prizes, cash. A filled icon indicates that the mode is selected. Multiple modes can be assigned simultaneously.
(3) Ranking configuration panel: Activate the panel using the toggle to enable the points prize-pool.
(4) "Kills" configuration panel: Its activation is only possible if the points prize-pool is enabled.
(5) Simulation panel for visualizing the prize-pool distribution.
Ranking
Activate the ranking to access its configuration.
The first important element is to determine what type of algorithm to use. PTA offers two default algorithms: logarithmic and linear. If you do not want to use a predefined algorithm, you can select a custom configuration.
Logarithmic Algorithm
This algorithm assigns the number of points using a logarithmic function. The fewer players you have, the more the winner is rewarded. We recommend this algorithm for 20 or more players. The algorithm's configuration is straightforward. It has the advantage of varying winnings based on the number of participants.
(1) Algorithm selection button.
(2) Number of paid places: This parameter defines how many players will receive points at the end of the tournament.
(3) By checking this box, points will be distributed among all tournament participants. This parameter takes precedence over the number of paid places.
(4) Number of points per player. This determines the contribution to the points prize-pool for each player. With 10 players registered and 10 points per player, the distributed points will be 100. This parameter is interesting if you want to highlight certain tournaments by doubling the number of points per player while maintaining the same calculation algorithm.
(5) Since the logarithmic calculation rarely yields integer numbers, you can configure the number of decimal places to round the earned points. By default, rounding is set to two decimal places.
As soon as you modify the parameters, the simulation panel is updated.
Linear Algorithm
PTA offers a second algorithm, which is linear. The distribution of winnings is based on the prize-pool (defined from points per player) and evenly distributes points among all "paid" players. This algorithm is less suitable for a large number of players, as the difference in winnings between positions can be too small.
The configuration of the linear algorithm is similar to the logarithmic algorithm. The simulation allows you to visualize the real-time impacts of configuration changes.
Custom Distribution
This mode of points distribution offers the most flexibility. It allows you to configure point distribution by applying rules.
(1) Custom distribution activation button.
(2) Number of points awarded for each position. This is a fixed number of points that will be awarded for each position. With a value of 1, the last player scores 1 point, the second-to-last scores 2, and so on. With a value of two points, the winnings are 2 and 4, respectively.
(3) Number of points awarded to the last player. You might want to assign a different number of points to the player who is the first to be eliminated from the tournament. By configuring the value to -1, for example, and assigning one point per position, the last player would score -1 and the second-to-last 2. With 2 points per position, the last player "wins" -1 and the second-to-last 4.
(4) Button to create rules.
In addition to this simple configuration, you have the option to add rules that allow for variable winnings. Clicking the add rule button creates a new rule, which will be executed after potential winnings are calculated based on "points per position" and "points for the last position" rules.
(1) Defines from which ranking (inclusive) this rule applies.
(2) Defines the action to execute. Three actions are possible:
- Add to total: The entered number of points (3) is added to the score.
- Points per position: Redefines the number of points distributed per position.
- Custom: Allows you to assign a fixed number of points.
By playing with these options, you can address many issues. You can easily boost winnings for players at the final table or on the podium, for example, or define a more pyramidal prize distribution with boosts by tier.
(4) Rule deletion.
Managing "Kills"
In addition to points earned through ranking, you can reward player eliminations.
(1) Activation toggle for kill calculations.
(2) Calculation mode. Two calculation modes are available:
- Percentage: A percentage of the total prize-pool is awarded per kill.
- Manual: A fixed number of points is awarded.
(4) Indicates if certain kills are given bonuses. This allows for specific bonuses for the elimination of a "bounty" player.
(5) The value of each bounty kill. It can either be a multiplier of the amount for a regular kill or a custom value. If a regular kill earns 1 point, setting the multiplier to 2 will earn 2 points for eliminating a bounty.
(6) Number of points awarded for eliminating a bounty.
The simulation does not take into account kills.
